The majority of sleep experts will tell you that healthy adults should get at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep daily. This may sound like an easy thing to do, after all most people love to sleep, however you would be surprised to hear the large number of people who cannot do that because of the circumstances  of their environment. Many people who live in urban areas have a hard time finding sleep because of the light, and sometimes the noise, entering their room at night. Others, who work at night, must find sleep in broad daylight. Many people are still under the assumption that nothing can be done about this light problem, thus they do nothing, and as a result their sleep patterns are disrupted and they suffer from sleep deprivation. One easy way out of  this dilemma is to install blackout blinds on the windows.

Benefits of Blackout Shades

Blackout blinds have been available for severals years in many forms, yet many homeowners are not familiar with them or their benefits. People often discover them by accident. They realize that they need to reduce the amount of light that enters their bedroom, and as they look for solutions they stumble on this great solution. The fact is that blackout blinds or blackout curtains are available in many shapes, many colors and styles. Prices are also wide ranging depending on quality and sizes.

Some fall under the category of temporary blindsand are made of a thin paper-like material that is easy to cut to size and install in minutes. For people looking for more permanent solutions there are many blinds in a variety of materials as varied as they are beautiful and practical. You can also opt for blackout curtains or drapes. These can also be insulated and reduce heat loss in the winter. Many of the blackout blinds are good noise reducing barrier for people who live in noisy city areas. It seems almost silly to discuss colors as there are so many choices that any decor can be matched. Textures are another area you might look at to fill the need for a more elegant window covering.

Where Should You Use Blackout Blinds

These blinds are great for anybody’s bedroom, but there are particularly wonderful in nurseries as many babies and toddlers have a hard time taking naps when daylight enters the room. Some children even wake up at the crack of dawn, making life difficult for parents. Blackout blinds will eradicate this problem and parents might regain a few hours of much needed sleep.

For a practical way to eliminate light entering your house at night, or during the day, you might just find that blackout shades are the best solution.

Great hub. I have also found blackout blinds to be useful in the room in which I have my home cinema system, so we can block the light and watch a film on the projector during the day.

Yes, I've just recently installed black out blinds (well, tacked up blackout fabric anyway) in my kids' bedroom, to help them get to sleep despite the long summer days. It's been great and they've stopped waking up at the crack of dawn too!

@ nthdimension this is a really good suggestion. I don't have a home cinema so I did not think about that, so I appreciate your pointing it out. Thank you

Having lived in Las Vegas for 7 years and working on the grave shift for most of those black out shades are an essential item to most of the homes in Southern Nevada
