We have some wicker furniture and we like it okay, but our toddler picks at it constantly. He can pick little pieces off pretty easily.
kimballtrombone, thank you for your comment, you are quiet correct about kids and their little fingers picking at things they shouldn't. I guess that is a great point to make about wicker, it might not be the best kind of furniture if you have little kids, and yet there is so much nice bedroom furniture made just for kids. Perhaps it is a question of age. Don't get it for very young kids.
Because rattan furniture must be manufactured through a heating process, then I assume costs are higher for rattan and retail prices are higher to.
Kencun, prices are not higher because of the process. Rattan does not really require as much processing as do trees. The real factor in prices is who designs the furniture and where it is made. All prices are now totally out of whack anyway, there does not seem to be much reason for why we can find the same thing in shop A at half the price of shop B. Too many factors and too much nonsense.
Mireille are you a proponent of synthetic forms of wicker furniture or simply the real stuff?
@Monarch.Starcrack, thanks for reading and commenting. I do like what is available in synthetic wicker. We are seeing some amazing furniture being made and for outdoors it cannot be beat. It is as close to natural as you can get in look. However indoors I think that natural wicker in its many forms (including paper) can be a better environmental solution for people with allergies. There is not a one size fit all solution to our diverse home environments.
I love that green chair and the rounded chair right above the green chair. I love wicker furniture for outdoors and I agree that resin is the way to go.

I should not have titled this seven things to know because now I can think of a bunch of things to know that I forgot to add. For example did you know that 30% of wicker furniture that is bought is white?
